IMMEDIATE USE FUNDS OVERVIEW

Since 2003, CEF has given over $621,275 in Immediate Use Funds to the CUSD schools. In past years these funds have been used to pay for a librarian’s salary, purchase school supplies, assist in teacher training, fund homework club, and provide assemblies, guest speakers and transportation for field trips. Immediate Use Funds come from the proceeds of the annual Starlight Soiree and contributions from individual donors.

CEF requires the funds be spent within the 2011/12 school year on projects or programs that have a direct impact on our students. This determination is made by the Principal, along with the elected site council, or parent/teacher organization of each school.

Where will the money go? We ask the schools to report back to us within 45 days of the distribution and describe the process they used to determine where to invest their share, and what programs or projects they will be funding that year.

In 2011 $50,000 were distributed to our schools. In past years these funds have been used to pay for a librarian's salary, purchase school supplies, assist in teacher training, fund homework club, and provide assemblies, guest speakers and transportation for field trips.

HMB High School

Funds will be used to bring the Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center to the high school for a series of both staff and student bully prevention workshops.

Dollars will also be allocated to fund our online credit recovery program for both fall and spring semesters.  This will help 100+ students get back on or stay on both graduation and UC/CSU eligibility track.

Funds will be used for professional development for the teacher assigned to the new web/animation course that will be offered in the fall of 2001. Oracle will do the training.

Cunha Intermediate School

The CEF funds will be used to partially fund a full time librarian for 2011-12.

El Granada Elementary School

All funds will be used to purchase Literacy Supplies.  These supplies will include purchasing new books or replenishing overused books inside each classroom.

These funds will also be dedicated to use for beginning of the year reading supplies that include reading notebooks, folders, book boxes, big books, literacy games and other engaging activities that will motivate and support student learning.

Hatch Elementary School

Dollars will be allocated for K-5 field trips that support Science standards based curriculum in the classroom: Exploratorium, Coyote Point and the San Jose Tech Museum are a few examples.

Funds will be used to purchase classroom materials that support all students in preparing for the California State tests.

Dollars will be used to purchase a second Fountas and Pinell Reading Program for the struggling readers.
